About Film Society KC

THe Robert Altman Emerging Filmmakers Fund
With permission from the family of Robert Altman, the Film Commission of Greater Kansas City established The Robert Altman Emerging Filmmakers Fund in 2011 to help local filmmakers better realize their cinematic visions and creative business pursuits. The legendary filmmaker’s work includes MASH, McCabe & Mrs. Miller, Nashville, and Kansas City, among his list of credits. In 2014, after the Film Commission and Film Society merged, the Altman Fund is now administered by Film Society KC and the Fund's founder, Justin Gardner.
GRANTS
Every year the Altman Fund sends up to 4 qualified candidates through Kansas City's Artist INC program, which seeks to give artists the tools to better fulfill their creative business goals. The Film Society pays for these classes in the form of education grants so the recipients can go for free. Additionally, the Film Society seeks to raise money through fundraisers and events to give cash grants to filmmakers in the KC and surrounding area so they can better realize their cinematic visions.
SEMINARS
Film Society KC and the Altman Fund seek to not only educate filmmakers, but also the film going public as well. In 2015, with the support of the KC Film + New Media office and Maker Faire KC, the Altman Fund conducted its first seminar for the public that gave filmmakers and film fans greater insight into the process of film, tv and new media production. Film Society KC will continue to put on seminars like this throughout the year and members will get first access to them.
